Dance Macabre

Camille Saint-Saens. Dance Macabre. Leopold Stokowski conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra. Thaddeus Rich, violin solo. Transfer by Bob Varney from Victor 6505 issued in 1925. This was the first electrical recording issued of an orchestral performance. The sound in the lower frequencies is clearly improved over acoustic recordings, but, in this early example, there's not much happening above 4,000 Hz.
